American College of Correctional Physicians

The next Grand Rounds session of the New Year will take place at 1:00 PM Eastern time on Thursday, January 29, 2026, which is an exception to the general rule.

For this session, the ACCP welcomes Radha Sadacharan, MD, MPH, an active ACCP member, who has worked diligently in the past as co-chair of our education committee. She will lead a session on Improving the Mortality Review process in correctional settings. The topic will include consideration of the legal ramifications of a thorough review.

Dr. Sadacharan is a family medicine physician with addiction and public health focus who has worked in correctional medicine for nearly ten years. She is particularly interested in issues of racial justice and mass incarceration. She has worked and is still involved professionally with medical education, legal issues in correctional medicine, addiction treatment, re-entry, and population and public health. She currently, among other responsibilities in Correctional Health, is the consulting Health Services advisor to the Idaho Department of Corrections.

“Opportunities for Improvement in the Mortality Review Process in Corrections”

Objectives:

1.             Understand the current expectations of a mortality review for a death in custody.
2.             Discuss the benefits and risks of implementing changes in mortality review processes.
3.             Identify next steps to improve the mortality review process in corrections.

Grand Rounds sessions are free to all attendees. CME credit through the American Academy of Family Physicians is approved. Nursing, PA, and Mental Health CEU credit is also possible through agreements between the AAFP and your professional organizations.

We encourage you to invite your friends and colleagues to attend this session, which will inform us on practical measures we can take to improve the mortality review process as well as risk management in the correctional setting.

We hope you can attend this session of Correctional Medicine Grand Rounds. We expect it to be an excellent opportunity to gain practical information and networking opportunities. The Grand Rounds session will last one hour and will include ample time for questions, discussion, and networking.

Correctional Medicine Grand Rounds are usually held on the first and third Thursday of each month. This month, because of the New Year holiday, they will be held on the third and fifth Thursday.
