CALL FOR ABSTRACTS: HEALTH DISPARITY AND HEALTH EQUITY IN FORENSIC NURSING

PRELIMINARY ABSTRACTS ARE DUE MARCH 6, 2022

The objectives of the special issue are that our readers will:

1.      Be made aware of how health equity and health disparity can affect the science and practice of forensic nursing.
2.      Understand the opportunities and challenges involved in creating equity and reducing disparities for forensic nurses and our patient populations.
3.      Learn about strategies for and scientific approaches to increasing health equity in forensic nursing.

 To gauge interest and identify a variety of topics, we request that interested authors send a preliminary abstract of the proposed paper. PRELIMINARY ABSTRACTS ARE DUE MARCH 6, 2022. Invitations to submit full papers will be sent by March 31, 2022, with manuscripts due by July 1, 2022.

Possible topics for submissions include—but are not limited to:
*       Forensic nursing care of vulnerable populations (LGBTQIA+, racial minorities, immigrant, disabled, mental health affected, others)
*       Interventions targeting disparities in access to forensic nursing services
*       Research on how forensic nursing contributes to the reduction of disparities for survivors of violence and abuse
*       Program evaluation projects focusing on health equity
*       Disparities in access to forensic nursing services related to mental health or other conditions
*       Challenges to reducing health disparities among forensic nursing care populations
*       Strategies to support health equity among forensic nurses and other providers who may experience trauma in their practice
*       Case reports or case series focusing on specific issues of health equity or health disparity with forensic nursing clients or patients
*       Effects of COVID-19 on health equity/disparities among populations vulnerable to violence and/or abuse
*       Influences of health disparities on decisions about seeking forensic nursing care
*       Role of health disparities in the care of incarcerated individuals
*       Financial, billing, funding, or other resource issues that affect access to forensic nursing services

Abstracts should be submitted to Candace Burton, issue guest editor (cwburton@hs.uci.edu) and CC'd to journal Editor-in-Chief Cindy Peternelj-Taylor (cindy.peternelj-taylor@usask.ca). Please use "JFN Health Equity issue abstract" as the subject line!

Abstracts must be <500 words, and include:
Aims
Methods
Results
Conclusions
Potential impact of this work on health disparity/health equity and forensic nursing
